2013 Travels
During 2013 we're taking a clock-wise lap around much of the country. In late 2012 we started the southern leg of the trip in the Carolinas, and through a very wet Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, before pausing a bit in the Hill Country of Texas. From there we headed to the Southwest, lots of time in Arizona, and as the weather eased up north, began our run up the West Coast toward Washington (our NW homebase)...where we paused again while visiting the kids and grandkids. In early May we began the trip back to Wisconsin and set a brisk pace to get there... a sensed need to be there for family and for us to get started with Sabbatical II.

From May until November we were in Wisconsin. During that time my Dad went into decline and died. We bought a pickup truck, a Northstar Camper, and worked on plans for Sabbatical II. Drove the bushouse out to Oregon in November and settled in for a Holiday with our Pacific Northwest Family.

2012 Travels
New Years Day we traveled from Hondo to Rockport on the Texas Gulf Coast. During our 3 month stay there, Dar worked. We also made a side trip to the Rio Grande Valley and South Padre Island. When we left in April we took about 6 weeks to explore along the almost straight line between Rockport and Portland, highlights included Sante Fe, Mesa Verde NP, Goosenecks SP in Utah, Moab and Arches NP, Promontory Summit in Utah, and then into Idaho and Eastern Oregon. We started back to the Midwest in late June, stopping at North Cascades NP, almost getting chased by wildfire from an RV park in Helena Montana, and enjoying a nice stop at Theodore Roosevelt NP in North Dakota. Arrived at our Wisconsin summer homebase the middle of July and stayed there until early October... with a couple weeks for a side trip with the bus-house into Michigan and the U.P. during early September. Our escape from impending Winter took us to South Carolina to visit friends and family. Since we'd decided to not sit in one location this Winter, we slowly rolled through the South, from east to west, and ended the year at an RV park in College Station Texas.

Our 2011 Travels
Once again, our year begins along the gulf coast of Texas. From there, a quick trip to Wisconsin where we set up camp for the summer. In late April/early May we made a side trip with the car to visit Tim and Chris in South Carolina (the darker blue pins are motels) for a couple weeks. When we left Wisconsin in August we headed west, going through the Bad Lands and Black Hills of South Carolina. Then an Escapade in Gillette before moving on to the Pacific Northwest. In October we began our southward leg looking for warmth... stops included Lassen Volcanic National Park, Park Sierra and Yosemite, a side trip with car to Kings Canyon NP and Sequoia NP, Joshua Tree NP, and various spots in Arizona. We ended the year at Hondo Texas before heading back to the Gulf Coast and Rockport after the first of the year.

Path Maps from Previous Years...

2007 -- Click on map to enlarge
2007 was our first year as fulltimers. Starting in early July, we hung around the Midwest during the summer before heading south to visit friends in Tennessee and the Carolinas in the fall. We were in  Rockport Texas at the end of the year.

2008 -- click on map to enlarge
2008 began for us in Rockport Texas. Starting in late January we headed through West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and then up the West Coast to the Northwest. Lewis & Clark were our guides as we returned to the Midwest following the Missouri River in late Spring. Then Summer in the Midwest before settling south and back to Rockport Texas for the core of Winter.

2009 began once again in Rockport Texas. But this time we followed the Gulf Coast to the east in the Spring. Dar attended a nursing conference in Florida before heading back to the Midwest for Summer. In the Fall, we followed parts of the emigrant trails westward through Wyoming, Idaho, and into Oregon. After our Northwest visit, we settled south, visiting 6 National Parks along the path back to Rockport for the Winter.

2010: A pattern is forming... as we once again began the year in Rockport Texas. As Winter turned to Spring we visited Palo Duro Canyon in the panhandle of Texas before heading back to Wisconsin and Michigan for the Summer. In late Summer and early Fall we drove historic US-2 all the way from St. Ignace Michigan to Everett Washington. After our visit in the Northwest, we followed a new path south and enjoyed the southwest deserts in Nevada and Arizona. In December we once again headed to Texas... ending our year in Hondo.

2011: More of the same pattern as last year. Started in Hondo and ended in Hondo. Dar worked for the first three months of the year near Rockport, then we headed north, quickly, to assist JT and Kaytlyn in their move to Seattle. We also made a side trip to see Tim and Chris in South Carolina. We stayed in the Midwest until August, when we pointed the nose of the bus-house west, stopping to see Doug and Kay in Lake City, and Sue and Jim in Burnsville. After a short stint in Algona, IA, we meandered west, through southern South Dakota, the Badlands, the Black Hills, and then to an Escapade in Gillette, WY. The pace quickened some after Escapade and we arrived in Portland in September, staying for a month. Then a meandering trip South, through a string of National Parks, over to Arizona, and back again to Hondo for the Holidays.
